Pictured: Overkill and probably not DOT-legal DMACK DMG2 tires

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Figuring out a wheel and tire package is still baffling me though. Here are my options so far:

In terms of overall criteria, I’d like to find tires that are reasonable for street driving and also for RallyX. The alternative is to bring the rally wheel/tire package separately and put them on at events, but I’d rather find something that works okay for both dailying and rallying.

Snow Tires

Kinja'd!!!

Cheap and effective for RallyX, but I live in SoCal and it’d be a stretch to daily on these even in the winter. Most events are in hot desert locations and I’m not sure these would be ideal. They do fit though, with 195/60 R15 available.

All-terrain tires

Kinja'd!!!

I like the General Grabber AT2s, but they’re too big. 205/70R15 just won’t fit. At a 27" overall diameter, they match the diameter of my fenders and would rub everywhere. I can’t seem to find tires like this in a smaller size, from any brand.

If a smaller A/T tire is available, that’s probably my first choice since it would suit both daily and rally duties pretty well.

Gravel Tires

Pictured at the top of the story, I could order some expensive (and hard to determine if street- legal) competition tires. They’re available in 195/65R15 and would fit perfectly, but don’t satisfy the daily-driving criteria. Also, 3x the price of snow tires and possibly less utility.

Other Options?

Is there anywhere else to look for solutions to this dilemma? I want all-terrain tires with less than 25" diameter, but I can’t find any online.

Off road tires, rolled fenders, lift kit.

Maybe look at racingjunk or similar and find a used set of gravels? I've heard that works well.

I don’t know the level of modification to your MR2, but a set of “competition” gravel tires will take you out of a “Street” category in SCCA RallyX.

I already have an aftermarket coilover suspension setup; it’s not in the AutoX street category either. Basically looking for tires that’ll be better for RallyX than my current Yokohama S.Drive setup.

^These Method MR502 wheels are the likely candidate for the package since they fit (15x7", ET15) and provide better shielding for the brakes than my current wheels.

I’m really jut looking for good tires that fit on a 15x7 and fit under my fenders too. Preferably daily-drivable to a reasonable degree.

I have the snow tires from your first option on my rallycross Neon. They feel pretty squishy in 80+ degree heat on the street, but seem to provide ample grip in the dirt. I’ve heard most people running gravel tires find them used for cheap, but haven't investigated that option myself yet.

I guess the heat factor is the biggest issue, as daytime temperatures are mid-80s pretty regulary where I’m driving.

Snow tires are pretty damn good on dirt and are also relatively cheap to purchase. Find something than is designed to take studs so the rubber will be a bit stiffer.

I like this website for researching tires with alternate sizes:

https://tiresize.com/tiresizes/26-inch-tires/

spoiler alert - they dont show any 25" dia tires with off-road tread patterns other than winter tires. They do s ho w one 26" dia tire in R15:

They used to make a tiny ko, but they would be hard to find these days. Plus 14 not 15

Why would you want to be daily driving on your rallycross tires anyway? Doesn’t seem like that should be part of the criteria. I would start with a set of snows and then figure out what you want to do after that set is used up .

I have never tried rallycross on all terrains but everyone in the stock classes in my region run snows so make of that what you will.

Also gravel tires are not DOT approved or legal for road use. You also don't want to drive on the street with them because they don't grip on pavement, especially if wet.

Try something 195/65/15, lots of stuff available and it doesnt rub on a lowered civic. Get a snow tire that looks more like a nordmaan than a hakka, and in the highest load rating you can find so the sidewalls stay decent in heat.

Lots of state patrol cars roll on winter tires year round in places that get way hotter than 80.  Sidewall construction/stiffness is key.

What size wheels have you got? Vredstein makes an old-fashioned mud and snow tire in the 165/80 R15 size, but it’s probably too narrow for your rims.

It’s a 15x7, the 80 aspect ratio might be a little much for fender clearance too. I’ll check out Vredstein though, maybe they’ll have something.

You definitely can’t run gravel’s on the street. You won’t find a DOT mark on them. My Capri isn’t RallyX ready yet, but I did get the tires mounted up recently. I’m attempting to cram some giant 215/70/15 altimax artics onto the Capri and they look pretty badass. First pic shows the tread with them mounted, next is leaned up against the car. I’m using Fox Mustang 10 hole wheels.

Oh also, check the rules about potential lifts. Everyone always goes “it’s a rally car put a lift on it” on here and in the Detroit region they won’t let people run with lift kits of any kind due to roll over risks.
